My son pitch's on a 10u USSSA travel team and I got him the shirt because I was worried about line drives back at him. After we made a few modifications the shirt works well and I have bought a second one and also modified it. There is to much padding across the chest. When he tried to put his hands together in front of his body the shirt/padding bunched up and was uncomfortable. I cut the 3 pads out that ran up each side in front of shoulder but left the center chest pad in. This helped with comfort and still have the protection to chest and torso area.

My grandson plays pitcher for a machine pitch team. In USSSA tournaments large barrel composite bats are legal. This adds a margin of safety to being that close to the batter.

This shirt fits snugly, offers a tremendous amount of protection. It is light but it has so much padding that it does add a bit of warmth and bulk. Given the line drives youth pitchers face, it still is highly recommended if you have any concerns about injury, [*] fielding position at end of pitch or a lot of big hitters in your league.
